Cot Bed

A Cot Bed is larger than a Standard Cot and has the added advantage of you being able to convert it to a Junior or Toddler’s Bed once your baby has outgrown the need for a fully-protective Cot.

Many parents choose a Cot Bed once their baby has outgrown its Crib or Moses Basket. By choosing a Cot Bed over a standard Cot, you have more flexibility going forward as the Cot Bed is convertible to a “more standard” bed.

With its larger frame and a more sturdy build quality, a Cot Bed is usually placed in the children’s nursery rather than in the parents’ bedroom. By the time a Cot Bed is used, the baby has usually settled into a sleep pattern, allowing the parents a little more freedom.

The flexibility of a Cot Bed

A Cot Bed will usually be used with its sides up at first, protecting your ever more mobile baby from falling out of bed as they begin to move around in their Cot.

In time the sides can be lowered or removed, allowing more freedom in getting in and out of the Cot Bed. Some even allow you to transform them into seats when you’ve finished using them as a bed, giving an extra piece of furniture in the child’s nursery or bedroom.

Buying a Cot Bed and separate mattress

Many Cot Beds come without a mattress, allowing parents more choice when it comes to their baby’s comfort.

As with choosing a mattress for your own bed, the mattress you choose for a Cot Bed is important. A good quality mattress will allow your baby a better night’s sleep, aiding their development.

Considering the amount of time your baby will spend asleep, a good quality Cot Bed mattress should be seen as an essential purchase for any parent.
